Equipment is not essential for Pilates (although a suitable Pilates mat is a very good idea), and all exercises can be performed perfectly well without blocks, exercise bands and balls. Additional equipment can be very helpful though as you progress, enabling a wider variety of exercise variations, including more challenging ones. Doing anything that challenges your memory is great for cognitive function, so here’s a short warmup routine for you to follow and try to memorise. Complete 4 of everything and wiggle as long as you like! This routine will also help with mobility, stability, balance, and coordination – all those key health benefits that will keep us upright for longer! This warmup comprises:
- – Arm circle back R/L
- – Squat
- – Arm reach up R/L
- – Knee lift and circle the ankle R/L
- – Open the arms wide
- – Hug
- – Heel lift R/L or both
- – Wiggle
