Hello everyone. I’ve just returned from another inspiring Fitness Pilates Summit, run by Rachel Holmes and Kelly Reed, and held at the Hilton Hotel, Canary Wharf in London.

My aim, as always, is to improve my own Pilates teaching through gaining new inspiration and keeping abreast of latest best practice. I love doing this for my own personal development, as well as to best serve you, my ‘Pilates family’, of course! And I shall be bringing a lot of what I have learnt to my group and one-to-one Pilates classes in the very near future!

This year, the emphasis of the Summit was on using a new breathing technique called ‘box breathing’, as well as activation band work and same side ‘time under tension’ training techniques. I will be talking about box breathing in the coming weeks to help you focus more on breath and movement as one. I speak a lot in class about using our breath during exercise, and box breathing really takes this to the next level. It is therefore especially suited to my more experienced Pilates clients.

I spend much of my time teaching Pilates, so it is always very enjoyable to be a ‘participant’ again, learning and being inspired by others. I really enjoyed the same side work to really fire up the core muscles and give classic moves a new challenge. I am really looking forward to sharing what I have learnt with you all over the coming weeks and months!

Happiness and health

Jane Mackenzie
