One of the things we like to do for our Jane Mackenzie 24/7 Online Pilates clients when we can, is to record your classes in scenic locations, either during the summer or when we are on holiday. We’ve had loads of great feedback that taking a class with a lovely outdoor backdrop makes your Pilates that much more enjoyable – so we do the best we can!
But it’s not always that easy to find a place where we can set up undisturbed for an hour or so (some of you may have seen some of our outtakes!), not to mention finding the right angle so the sun is in the correct place, with the view behind me. To give us the best chance of success though, we tend to start very early in the morning when there are fewer people about.
Copt Point on the coast of Folkestone has been in our mind to try for many weeks now, having a sunlit view in the mornings towards Folkestone Harbour Arm and the iconic Folkestone sign, and towards Folkestone’s ‘Sunny Sandy’ beach. Copt Point itself is a rocky area halfway between the sands and Wear Bay (the Warren, as it is known locally), and beneath the East Cliff. There’s a flat concrete platform there, but it’s quite difficult to get to, being a considerable walk over the rocks from the end of Coronation Parade.
We checked it out as a potential filming location some time ago, and found the site to be perfect for an early morning shoot, meaning we then just had to wait for a combination of nice weather, little wind, and a high tide, all of which finally came together for us this week! And the advantage of being so difficult to get to of course is that no-one else was there, especially at 6.45 am when we arrived! And with the sun rising over the sea to the east providing golden light, and the camera facing west towards Folkestone Harbour Arm, it was absolutely perfect!
A couple of clips from the class (which as always is a full hour in length) are shown here, and I do hope you agree it makes a lovely change from a studio shoot.
