This weekend I attended the Fitness Fiesta event with my sister Carol. For those who have not heard about this event it is a fitness weekend which runs from Friday to Sunday and offers fitness classes in all the fun and exciting ways you love, and showcases anything new coming along to try out. The classes are taught by some of the best instructors in the country and there are nine different venues in the hotel where the classes take place. There is something for everyone, with different fitness levels and abilities catered for.

This was a great opportunity for me to see a wide variety of fitness classes and learn new moves to keep my own classes fresh and innovative. Also, it helps put me in the place of the participant again, and really worked me hard, challenging my own levels of fitness. As an instructor this is so important to do for many different reasons. Firstly, as I mentioned, it gives me new ideas and routines for my own classes. I also use it as an educational experience too. It is a requirement as a member of CIMSPA that I continue with my professional development each year to maintain my membership. Attending accredited events like this enables me to maintain my status as ‘Practitioner (exercise and fitness)’.

The highlights of the weekend for me were attending Carroll Locke‘s Pilates classes. She is one of the best Pilates instructors I have seen and has such a great connection with everyone in the class, as well as a wealth of knowledge and experience. I tried a ‘Glider’ class which involved sliding on frisbee-shaped discs to work core strength and balance.

I Also attended several sessions by Kardy Laguna who has been in the fitness industry for more than twenty years. The first class was an aerobic session where I learnt some new moves for my Old School Aerobics. The second was a conditioning class. He taught us several new moves that really fire up the gluteal muscles (bottom). I can’t wait to show you all these new moves in the coming weeks.

Fitness Fiesta have events all around the country with the nearest to Folkestone in October at Camber Sands. Two nights accommodation in the self catering chalets and all the classes for £100.

I am thinking about arranging a group of us to go to the Windsor event in April 2019. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds outside Windsor and is 4 star. It was two nights half board, plus all the classes for £200 each. They even have a disco in the evening for those who want to stay up and party. I was asleep by 10.00 pm! Let me know if you are interested. It’s not all about classes, they have a swimming pool and beauty treatments at very low prices all weekend, that you can book in advance. Here is an example of the sorts of classes you can expect.

We took a trip into Windsor on the Friday and went to the castle. A lovely city and the castle was amazing, so great for a bit of sightseeing too. It is walking distance down to the Themes as well.

One of the great things this weekend has given me is more passion and enthusiasm to make my classes the best they can be and to bring everyone on this fantastic fitness journey with me. I look forward to seeing you all very soon. Jane x
