Leading fitness professional and Pilates instructor Jane Mackenziie spoke to Dave Sharp of Academy Radio Folkestone about her work in the fitness industry, and how she has adapted her business in the light of lockdown.

During the interview, Jane spoke about why it is important to exercise, and also the way exercise restrictions during lockdown have demotivated people from exercising. She criticised the government’s decision to keep gyms and fitness classes closed whilst many other businesses such as bars and restaurants can reopen, highlighting the potential negative effects on mental as well as physical health.

Jane went on to explain why people like to exercise in groups, and how she has adapted her Pilates business to offer online classes whilst still maintaining a degree of social interaction. She also discussed the pitfalls of exercising at home following videos, without due consideration of the quality of instruction, or ones own physical limitations or medical conditions.
