Hello Everyone
I hope you are enjoying this amazing summer weather, interspersed with some well needed rain for the garden. Lots of you are back from your holidays in the coming weeks, so make sure you have your classes booked up in advance, as most classes are very busy now.
Some tips for keeping cool during the heatwaves
- Always drink water especially before, during and after classes, or before any exercise.
- Wear light-coloured, loose-fitting clothing. Wear a hat when you are outside. Sit in the shade where possible.
- Always have sun cream in your bag, and in the car.
- Cool your bedroom down at night, by opening all the windows upstairs to create a through draft once the sun has gone down.
- If you are going on a long journey keep extra water in your car.
- Be aware of the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Equipment w/c 8th July
Next week we shall be using hand weights in class for some added resistance and bone-loading. This is of course optional for those who would prefer to continue exercising without. Why not take advantage of the competitively priced hand weights we have in stock to add to your Pilates arsenal?! Purchase now and I’ll bring them to class for you. Otherwise, you can bring food tins or small bottles of water to use as weights instead. https://www.janem.co.uk/shop/ . It is important that we add as much resistance to the muscles as we can to maintain muscle mass, and I will talk more about this in class this week.
Pilates Walk/Swim/Lunch – Saturday 12th July 10am
Following on from our successful walks so far this year we will be doing another walk/swim on Saturday 12th July at 10.00 am along the sea front onto the Hythe Ranges this time, as it looks like it might be sunny and warm, so we can get a refreshing sea breeze to keep us cool. We will meet on the sea front on Marine Parade outside The Waterfront, on the corner of Stade Street and West Parade. There are public toilets there, too. You can park for free along South Road or West parade, or in other side roads.
I will be bringing my swimming things for a swim after if anyone wants to join me. We can get a drink and a bite to eat in the Waterfront after. You can only park in the Waterfront car park if you are eating in there and they will ticket you if you are not careful. We can sit outside as there is plenty of seating there with shade, too. If there are enough who want to eat we can book a table. Please let me know if you would like to join us so I have an idea of numbers.
Wuthering Heights Day, Sunday 20th July, 4pm
It’s that time of year again! We get out our red dresses and off we go to the Harbour Arm. I thought about doing it at 4pm this time as it has been very hot doing it at lunchtime and maybe we can go for a meal after? Let me know if you want to come along and join us. So many of you say you wish you had done it, so why not make this the year to join in?! Honestly it is so much fun. You don’t need to be able to dance or even know the routine, as they will do it with you. There are practice sessions, too, if you want to get it perfect.
Here are all the details: https://mostwutheringheightsdayfolkestone.co.uk/ , and here are some photos of when Mat joined in one year! https://www.janem.co.uk/2019/07/the-most-wuthering-heights-day-ever-folkestone/ . Let me know if you want to come along and we can all meet up.
See you all in class, and I look forward to the coming weeks of Pilates and socials with our Pilates family!
Happiness and health
