Hello Everyone

Our response to the government announcement lifting all remaining Covid-19 legal restrictions.

On 21st February the government announced the removal of all remaining Covid-19 legislation, including an end to the mandatory requirement to isolate if you have Covid-19 from this Thursday 24th February, and an end to free testing from 1st April. As a business whose purpose is to provide health and fitness services to the community, and especially within the 50+ age groups, we disagree with this decision on the basis that it puts public safety at unnecessary risk.

For this reason, we will until further notice continue to stipulate – as one of our terms of business – that you may not attend class if you have Covid-19 symptoms, or if you have been in close contact with anyone known to have had Coronavirus, and that you must then test negative before you return to class. Those who do not accept these terms should not attend classes with us. We will continue to support you in this by offering you one of four weekly live Zoom classes to take instead.

We also ask that if you develop Covid-19 symptoms up to 48 hours after attending class with us, that you inform us, so we can advise others accordingly. In such cases your anonymity will be preserved.

I will until further notice continue to test the morning of every day I teach group and one-to-one classes, and I would strongly urge you do the same before you come to class, although this is not mandatory. I will also wear a mask during one-to-one classes if asked to do so by my client.

We will continue to take other sensible and measured precautions in maximising the safety of our clients, by ensuring adequate ventilation, equal spacing, and by asking that you all respect my and each other’s’ space whilst at class venues.

We will continue to offer a direct swap between group and live Zoom classes if at any time and for any reason you don’t wish to come into class. We will also continue to provide our extensive Jane Mackenzie 24/7 Online Pilates service, for anyone who wishes to take their classes at home regularly.

We know there is a trade-off to be made between convenience and safety. On the one hand, we all want to get on with our lives in a normal manner as much as possible, and on the other want to feel safe when we are out mixing with others. We believe the above steps address this balance appropriately.

It’s fantastic that we are now moving from the pandemic to endemic phase of the Coronavirus outbreak, and like you I relish our renewed freedoms. However, there is no reason why ‘learning to live with the virus’ can’t mean doing so whilst taking reasonable precautions to keep each other safe. At the very least – no-one wants to be unwell.

Jane Mackenzie
