Hello Everyone
I hope you have had a good April despite the showers, and it’s been so lovely to see some of you socially too over this month; you know my sayings are ‘exercise and socialise’ and ‘stronger together’. We have definitely applied both recently, with our walk and lunch, and by together raising money from the Swimathon. I do love our Pilates family!
What to bring to class w/c 30th April – Weights
This week we shall be using hand weights in class for some added resistance and bone-loading. I have both 1 kg and 1.5 kg hand weights available in my shop. Buy now and I’ll bring them to class for you: https://www.janem.co.uk/shop/ . Or you can bring food tins or small bottles of water to use as weights instead. The use of weights is of course optional, if some of you would prefer to continue exercising without. Your arms weigh something anyway! (Please note that we are NOT collecting for the food bank this time round.)
Holiday Dates in May
A reminder that I shall soon be taking a two-week holiday. The following classes will not be running, and anyone with bookings on these dates will have their classes carried over to the end of their blocks.
- Tuesday 14th May – all classes cancelled.
- Wednesday 15th May – all classes cancelled.
- Thursday 16th May – all classes cancelled.
- Tuesday 21st May – all classes cancelled.
- Wednesday 22nd May – all classes cancelled.
- Thursday 23rd May – all classes cancelled.
- Zoom classes will also be cancelled for the whole of those two weeks.
- There will be no 1:1 sessions those weeks either.
- Classes resume as normal from Tuesday 28th May
Making the most of your Online Pilates
For all those already taking advantage of my online Pilates and Back Health Toolkit, or those who plan to be joining during my holiday, here are a few tips to make sure you make the most out of ‘Jane Mackenzie 247’!
- Decide what your goals are when doing the online. Having a goal/outcome means you are more likely to do it, because you want to achieve your goal. It might be you want to complete 2 classes instead of one. Trust me you will feel the benefits so much more if you do it twice a week and it won’t cost you any more as you can do as much as you like. It may be you want to improve your core strength? Whilst all our classes work on this there are classes which work more on the abdominals. Improve your basics – we have lots of back to basic classes. It doesn’t mean they will be easy, but will really focus on the basic principles of Pilates to help you understand and apply it to every move you do.
- Put dates/times in your diary to complete a class, the same as you would a face to face for your normal class. Set an alarm on your phone to remind you too. If you can put two dates/times that you know you have the time and is the best time for you to exercise. The same way we do face to face, if you can’t make your class reschedule it that week and stick to that time. Remember your goals – you want to achieve them. You will be so pleased you did.
- Have a look through what is on offer online before doing a class to see what types of sessions are available and how to use the website. This link shows you everything you need to know. https://www.janem.co.uk/jane247/
- Decide which device you will use. If you can use a tablet or laptop as the screen is bigger, but can be used on any mobile devise. Make sure that devise has enough battery to last the whole session, or you can plug it in. Lots of clients are connecting to their televisions too.
- Remember your health should be important to you and keeping up your Pilates is part of that, so your goal is to do at least the same amount of classes each week, but see if you can complete more to get the full benefit of being able to do Pilates whenever you want to and where ever. Several clients are now doing the online when they go away to their holidays. It’s a great time to focus on you for a change and rejuvenate your body physically and mentally.
Swimathon Result
Thank you so much for everyone who has sponsored me so far. I completed the 5k (3 miles / 200 lengths) in 2 hours and 23 mins , and have so far raised an amazing £1340, and still going up, thanks to your generosity! I am so pleased we have done this to raise money for Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie, both are such important charities that need our support. We all know someone who has been affected by cancer, or you or a family/friend may be recovering. We need more research to help develop faster diagnoses and cures. Progress has been made in the last ten years, but so much more can be done. Marie Curie offer an invaluable service for those suffering with cancer, so they need our help too. If you would still want to sponsor me, you can go to my Just Giving Page here https://justgiving.com/page/janemackenzie , or I will be collecting money in class up to the 3rd May.
Social Walk and Coffee Saturday 22nd June
We had a lovely walk at Etchinghill last week and a delicious meal at the Gatekeeper. I would recommend both if you haven’t walked in that area before, or want a pub meal out. There were 22 of us in all, several four-legged friends, and 18 of us who had lunch. So a great group and so wonderful to see more and more of you enjoying the walks and getting to know each other.
Pop the 22nd June in your diary for our next walk. We will decide on the location nearer the time, but it will be on the flat as promised. I was thinking of doing one along the coast, and possibly have a swim after if anyone would like to do that? Just a few ideas as it will be the summer and it will be warm and sunny! You know me and my optimism!
Have a wonderful week, and I look forward to seeing you in classes or online.
Happiness and health
Jane Mackenzie
