Hello Everyone
My New Qualifications!
Well, it’s taken me more than two years, but I’m there at last – I’ve finally completed and passed (with flying colours!) a series of three highest level qualifications, which I believe cements my position as one of the country’s leading Pilates instructors and exercise therapists ! As you all know, my passion is with Pilates, and I absolutely love teaching classes as well as doing Pilates myself. In order to take my teaching to the next level, I really wanted to upskill as much as I possibly could. This was my motivation, and as some of you already know it’s not always been an easy journey, but I’m so glad I persevered, and I’m very proud of my achievements! Here’s a summary of my new awards and what these mean for you my Pilates Family:
Level 4 Certificate in Pilates Exercise for the Management of Low Back pain
Whilst I have already completed several courses in back pain conditions, I wanted to deepen my knowledge in this area, in order to support clients with lower back pain referred to me by their clinician, and those diagnosed with ‘non-specific’ lower back pain (90% of cases). This new highest-level award means I can better serve those of you with these back problems.
Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Clients with Long-Term Conditions
Building on my existing Level 3 qualifications in Exercise for Older Adults, Exercise with Disabled Clients and Chair Based Exercise, I wanted to study more about the long-term conditions that clients present with. This new qualification covers 26 conditions, and covers prevalence, signs and symptoms, causes, management and exercise guidelines for each. The course also helped improve my knowledge of behavioural change management, and planning and adapting exercises. Due to the depth of this course, I now have an extensive library of information as a resource for the future.
Level 4 Award in Pilates Exercise Therapy
I have been delivering one-to-one Pilates sessions for many years, and have achieved some excellent results with my clients. Enjoying this work immensely, I therefore wanted to learn more about therapeutic exercise, to better understand dysfunctional movement patterns and analyse the exercise rehabilitation required. This new course focused on muscular-skeletal injuries and conditions, and exercise prescription and management.
Pilates Socials
We’ve had some lovely walks this summer: first Etchinghill plus a pub meal, and then wonderful a beach walk along the past Hythe Ranges. I love sharing the beautiful scenery locally with those of you who have never completed that walks before. It’s such a wonderful way to all get to know each other and exercise and socialise. Here is a news post on the Etchinghill walk and lunch: https://www.janem.co.uk/2024/04/etchinghill-pilates-social-walk-lunch/ . A group of us also participated in the Wuthering Heights red dress dance on the Harbour Arm with hundreds of other ladies, men, children and dogs! A small group of us also went to the circus and sat mesmerised by the skills of every performer!
Everyone is welcome to join any social event and can bring along partners, friends and dogs. Please let me know if you want to join the Pilates Social WhatsApp group. We also walk regularly on a Thursday morning at 8.15am from the Hythe Cricket Club (weather permitting) for an hour, if anyone wants to join us.
Canterbury Social Walk Saturday September 28th 10.30 am
We thought we would go a little further afield next time. Inspired by a Canterbury walk with my American friend a few months ago, I thought you would love a walk around the tiny streets of Canterbury and see amongst other things the oldest house there. We will meet in the square in the middle of Canterbury where Primark and Marks and Spencer’s food hall is. https://maps.app.goo.gl/iW8QEVKvBCUFPNr37 . We can park in the New Dover Rd Park and Ride. I know lots of you have already said you wanted to come. Please let me know in class or via email if you want to come along. Once we have an idea of numbers, I am sure we can car share to get to Canterbury, or you might want to go up on the bus as that is very cost effective and environmentally friendly way to travel.
